Munroe Mapping - An hour away from Varkala

The journey begins with a country boat ride before the island wakes up, moving through the mangrove tunnels towards the arch, passing little bridges and quiet waterways. A stop in the middle of Ashtamudi Lake gives you a chance to step into the backwaters and simply watch ordinary island life unfold — fishermen beginning their day, migratory birds moving across the water, and coconut trees leaning gently over the canals. A Kerala breakfast by the banks follows, with time to sit back and watch the morning routine of Munroe continue around you. Then, take a bicycle and ride through the island to the historic Dutch Church, carrying more than 150 years of local history within its walls. The journey continues into everyday Munroe life with a visit to a local coir factory or farm, where traditional work remains closely connected to the island and its landscape. A simple Kerala meal with fish fry brings everyone back together for lunch, followed by some time to relax before taking a short ferry ride connecting Munroe Island to the mainland. The ferry ride offers another way of seeing the island — its scattered islets, narrow waterways, homes and stretches of green appearing from a different perspective. As the day begins to slow down, return to the water for a sunset kayaking experience through the quieter backwaters.
